Moving into a new home? Here's why rekeying your locks is crucial
Rekeying Your Locks provides:
Enhanced Security:
You never know who has keys to your new home. Rekeying ensures that only you and your trusted contacts have access. Another consideration, is the possibility that previous owners or tenants had their locks masterkeyed or incorrectly pinned. I've seen both cases. Some locks, on a regular house, with multiple master-wafers in each chamber... allowing many unintended keys to operate. Other cases where there were only one set of pins in the lock. Typically, there are five sets. This matters significantly for security, as a single set can be opened with almost anything... it doesn't even have to be a key.
Cost-Effective:
Rekeying is often cheaper than replacing all the locks in your home, providing an efficient security upgrade. If you have good, smooth-working locks, they don't need to be replaced. You may have high-end Baldwin mortise locks on every door. Expensive to replace, cheap to rekey. We can provide as many additional new keys as you'd like, all cut right there.
Rekeying your locks brings Peace of Mind:
Knowing that you are the only one with access to your home can provide invaluable peace of mind. Maybe the previous owners are the most trustworthy people on earth, but consider who else might have keys. Their children, friends, neighbors, lost keys, previous pet sitters, etc. etc. You can never know the extent of risk that could've existed beyond your own involvement. It's best to rekey all exterior doors as soon as possible.
Rekey your locks, reset the garage door code and keypad, and any electronic lock code. The home should be secured before moving anything in, or going to sleep. That's peace of mind.
