Electronic Locks

For residential applications, you typically have two options: push button or touch screen. But there are additional features available, such as Bluetooth and WiFi, which will allow you to operate the lock without touching it. Furthermore, some locks have a keyed cylinder override, in case of malfunction or dead batteries. The keyed cylinder can be both a good and bad feature, as they are typically less secure than the electronic code portion of the lock.

You can choose an electronic deadbolt or an electronic knob/lever. Each have their own benefits and drawbacks and you may be installing this on door that’s not yet prepped for a deadbolt. If this is the case and you would like a deadbolt, we can drill and prep for that as well. Many of the electronic lower locks, knobs and levers, have auto-locking features that can be turned on. These keep the door in the locked state, only unlocking briefly when you access the lock, and then going back to locked on their own after a few seconds. Though they do make auto-locking deadbolts, I would stick with the lower locks for this feature, as the deadbolt can auto-lock while the door is still ajar.

Your deadbolt is the primary security of the door and is therefore the ideal, if you had to choose one over the other. You can have two electronic locks on the same door, if space allows and the locks you choose have enough room, but it’s often overkill. Having an electronic deadbolt with a keyed lower lock can create lockout issues, so oftentimes you’ll want the lower lock to be passive function, non-keyed.

Mailbox locks

USPS can typically replace cluster box locks, but oftentimes the wait is in excess of two months. Stand-alone mailboxes are outside of the scope of USPS and often require specialized locks, or modifications to the locking cam to work properly.
Furthermore, many cluster boxes are susceptible to manipulation. This is not the fault of the lock, but rather the shape of the hole in the compartment door. Specialized locks can be used to prevent brute force attacks.

Rekey The Locks

Rather than replacing a functional lock, the combination can be changed. This is a more cost-effective way to regaining access to the door and regaining key control. Typically, residential locks should be keyed alike. This allows you to use a single key to operate all the locks. Bedroom locks would be the common exception to this. But when you have dog sitters, caretakers, or Airbnb situations, you may consider keying the lower lock (knob, lever, or handle) to a different combination than the deadbolt. This gives you sole control over the deadbolt, which is the primary security of the door (if one is present).
The most common reasons you would rekey a lock would be for:

  • Lost or stolen keys
  • Staff turnover (caretaker, maid, nanny)
  • Evictions
  • Estates
  • Binding keys (worn keys and lock pins)
  • New property lease or purchases

Add Vehicle Key

This option allows you to add additional vehicle transponder keys or smart keys. You must currently have at least one key that will start and run the vehicle. So long as the security of vehicle has not been compromised, adding additional keys is typically simpler and quicker.

All Keys Lost

Many vehicles require two working keys to perform All Keys Lost. This process can take a little longer and is typically more expensive that just adding a second or third key.
If you’ve lost one or all of your vehicle keys, or if you’ve purchased a used vehicle and want to ensure that previously programmed keys will not operate your vehicle, this option would be ideal.
Any physical key that used to operate the doors, trunk, glove box, and physical aspect of the ignition will still work those areas, but the vehicle will not start with those keys.
